New Article on AIFM1: Collaboration with the Riemer Lab

07/02/2025

Our work on the human mitochondrial redox-factor AIFM1 has just been published in Molecular Cell. Wonderful collaboration with the group of Jan Riemer at the Institute of Biochemistry

AIFM1 has been proposed to play pro-apoptotic roles, but is now increasingly recognized for its function controlling energy metabolism in the mitchondrial intermembrane space. In a with the group of Jan Riemer we have defined the interactions of AIFM1 with its partners MIA40 and AK2 by solving high-resolution structures using single-particle cryo-electron microscopy. Amazing work in particular by the first authors, Alex (Riemer Lab) and Egor (Poepsel Lab) - you've done fantastic work!! Also a big thank you to Elmar Behrmann and Monika Gunkel for their support at the StruBiTEM cryo-EM facility here in Cologne. Some of the data was also collected with the help of Christos Gatsiogiannis at the Center for Soft Nanoscience in Münster.
